Chapter X: Kinetics

Excerpt from "Organic Matchmaker"

...

And oh, how I longed for romantic involvement,
So lonely, surrounded by aqueous solvent.
Then one day—’twas no way that I could mistake her—
Along came my magical “matchmaker.”

A towering enzyme whose active site
Could welcome two molecules nice and tight
Like a loveseat; we’d perfectly fit, in fact,
Positioned ideally to quickly react.

The enzyme was meant just for me and my match.
To her both my partner and I could attach,
And she helped me react with my ultimate mate
By stabilizing our transition state.

She stated, “My job is the best occupation;
Reducing your energy of activation.”
And then she said, “Although it’s been fun,
My job as your catalyst here has been done.”
